Research administration made simple
From finding funding to award acceptance to compliance and post award, research administration is a multi-faceted profession.
The Best Job of All is the National Council of University Research Administrators’ (NCURA) first foray into promoting the profession to youngsters. Although targeted to preschoolers, the colorful children’s book can help people of all ages understand what research administrators do to enable scientists to discover new knowledge, help inventors turn their ideas into reality, and assist faculty with their education and public service activities.
Robert Andresen, a research administrator at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, wrote the story about Milo Octopus who is anxious on Career Day at his elementary school because he doesn’t know what his mom does. Over the course of the day Milo learns that his mom’s job impacts a lot more than he realizes.
“Milo the Octopus not only helps children understand the profession of research administration but gives us adults a nice reminder of all that we do on a daily basis and just how important it is to so many people,” said Tracy Parker, a contract and grant administrator at the Research Foundation.
