Michael Cadigan, RF Board Member

Mike Cadigan is an experienced technology industry senior executive who has spent most of his working career in the semiconductor sector.

After graduating from the University of Buffalo with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in 1979, Mike joined IBM where he quickly progressed into management and continued to grow his scope of responsibilities as he took on a series of leadership positions related to product management, manufacturing, and supply chain operations. He oversaw the company’s original equipment manufacturer microelectronics business, led its internal manufacturing and fulfillment operations, and had extended responsibility for outsourced manufacturing activity worldwide.

In 2010 Mike became the General Manager of IBM Microelectronics with full P&L responsibility for end-to-end operations and sales of $4.3B to external customers and internally to IBM’s System Hardware Platform. During that time Mike also worked to further establish and grow the IBM Joint Development Alliance centered in Albany, NY where IBM served as the technology development hub working with Samsung, STMicro, Chartered Semi, and all the major semiconductor equipment suppliers. This work enabled the establishment of the New York State Nanoelectronics facility in Albany.

The final phase of Mike’s General Manager role was to secure a buyer for the IBM Microelectronics Business with the strategic goals of ensuring the success of IBM’s System Hardware Sourcing needs, the continued employment for the IBM Microelectronics employees, and the successful launch of the business into a new company structure. This led to the acquisition of IBM Microelectronics by GlobalFoundries in 2015.

Upon joining GlobalFoundries Mike served as the integration executive reporting to the CEO and later progressed to roles that included Chief Revenue Officer, SVP Product Management, SVP of Customer Design Enablement and Onboarding, SVP Quality and Chief Government Affairs Officer. Known as an exceptional leader and change agent, Mike was accountable in each of these roles for delivering results related to organizational strategy, talent enhancement and operational and organizational transformation.

Mike retired from GlobalFoundries at the end of 2024. He spends his time between his homes in New York state and Texas and in his spare time, enjoys working on his collection of cars.
