FAQS

Why should I participate?

  1. Prizes. Those who submit a video will be entered to win prizes valued up to $100.
  2. Team building. Making a video provides a unique opportunity to collaborate with coworkers.
  3. Training/professional development. Creating a video is a great self-teaching opportunity to reflect on compliance and ethics as they relate to our everyday lives as members of the Research Foundation and SUNY Community.

What if I have no experience in filming?

No experience is necessary. Videos can be recorded by simply using the camera on your smartphone. Your first take may not be perfect, but mistakes make for excellent bloopers.

For video recording tips and tricks, check out our Video Submissions Webpage.

What should the video be about?

The theme this year is “Make Good Choices.” Videos should be centered on this theme, though we encourage you to get creative. What is your team’s interpretation of the theme in your everyday work lives? In what situations at work do you opt to make a good choice? For inspiration, see our list of potential video topics.

How many people do I need?

You can have as few as one or as many as you’d like. However large your team, each person involved in the creation of your video will be entered to win a prize for participating in Compliance & Ethics Week.

How long should the video be?

Completed videos should be approximately 5 minutes in length. Use your best judgement— but as a general rule of thumb, focus on quality over quantity.

What are the steps involved in producing a video from start to finish?

  1. Assemble a team. Reach out to your coworkers and ask them to join you in creating a short video.
  2. Develop a plan. Once you have a team, brainstorm some ideas. After you’ve settled on a video topic, come up with a script or an outline. Decide on the setting and the props, if you’re using any.
  3. Record. Set aside a time that works for your team and dedicate it to shooting your video.
  4. Edit. Use video editing software to edit your video, if needed. For advice on how to do this, see our How-To Video on editing.

Prior participants reported dedicating a total of 4–6 hours to complete the steps listed above.
