Naming Standards for the Customer (Sponsor) and People Files
Purpose
This document provides naming standards to be used in the following files within the Oracle Applications at the Research Foundation:
Names
Proper names should be typed in mixed case (upper/lowercase).
- Abbreviations. Names should be spelled out in full. For people, first and last names should be spelled out in full, with middle initial (no punctuation).
For the supplier file people's names should not be prefixed with "Dr.", "Mr.", "Mrs.", etc.

- Initials. Businesses that are more commonly known by their initials than by what the initials stand for should be input as initials. Examples:
- AT&T
- KPMG
- IBM Corporation
Note: Remove all spaces and punctuation, use appropriate symbols, such as the ampersand (&).
- Punctuation and symbols. Do not use periods (. commas (,) apostrophes (')parentheses(()) or semicolons (;).
Exceptions: People's last names may have apostrophes (') or hyphens (-), and businesses may use an ampersand (&), such as AT&T.
Note: Do not put spaces before or after.

- Government Entities. The first word should be the state, county, city, or locality. Note: Use the full name as given for private organizations.

Addresses
All addresses should be typed in mixed case (upper/lowercase).
- Street Address:
- Street Name should be spelled out completely.
- Street, Road, etc. should be spelled out completely (e.g. Street, Road, Drive, Parkway).
- Post Office Boxes, Rural Routes:
- Post Office Box should be abbreviated as PO Box (no periods, no space between).
- Rural Route should be abbreviated as RR (no periods).
- City Names:
- City name should be spelled out completely. Common abbreviations, such as ST for SAINT are acceptable. Do not use punctuation.
- State and Country Names:
- State and country names should be spelled out.
