Benefits Continuation: After Death

Purpose

This document describes benefits coverage continuation for a Research Foundation (RF) employee's covered dependents following the death of the RF employee and provides links to more information on eligibility requirements.

After the death of an employee, covered dependents are eligible to continue coverage as shown in the following table:

Coverage Continuation

Dies

Health, dental and vision care coverage will continue at no cost for the employee's eligible and enrolled dependents for six months following the employee’s death.

Dies and has met all eligibility requirements for retiree health insurance

Retiree health coverage may be continued beyond six months. The first six months is provided without charge, after which the dependent must pay the full premium (employer and employee share).

Dental and vision care beyond the first six months is available to the employee’s dependents under COBRA. For more information, refer to COBRA Coverage Continuation.

Dies and has not met all eligibility requirements for retiree health insurance
