IRS Form 990
The Research Foundation for The State University of New York (RF) serves The State University of New York (SUNY). The RF administers nearly $1 billion in research activity for SUNY annually and its work has statewide and global impact.
The RF is not a state agency; rather, it is a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational corporation. It is subject to IRS tax exempt status rules and must file an IRS Form 990 annual reporting return with the IRS. The form reports on the business and operation of an organization, and provides information on its mission, programs, governance, sources of income and finances. The RF’s IRS Form 990 is publicly available at the links below.
We have organized the information contained in the Form 990 into a table that highlights the areas of our business about which people most often inquire and points to locations in the form where that information can be found. We also include a brief FAQ section to answer some of the most common questions about the RF activity reported in the Form 990.
We hope this Reader’s Guide will help explain key information contained in the RF’s IRS Form 990.
Note: The years listed below are the IRS tax years which represent the period that the RF began its fiscal year. For example, the link to the file named “IRS Form 990 – 2019” covers the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2019 and ending June 30, 2020.
