Matthew Mroz - Vice President - Industry and External Affairs

Matthew Mroz, the RF’s Vice President of Industry and External Affairs, and a member of the RF’s Leadership Team, is responsible for growing the RF's reach and reputation for excellence through strong, strategic relationships with SUNY System Administration and campuses, businesses, government organizations, and other enterprises. Matthew oversees the divisions of industry relations, partnerships, new and joint ventures, technology transfer, affiliated corporations, and intellectual property and industry risk management and policy. 

Prior to being named Vice President, Matthew served as the RF’s Director of Innovation and Partnerships and created and led the organization’s integrated technology transfer and business development function to provide a fully-enabled service model to 27 campuses across the SUNY enterprise. Additionally, Matthew successfully developed, implemented, and managed various enterprise-wide technology, business solutions, and programs that advance and facilitate the marketability of SUNY innovation and the protection of SUNY intellectual property. Devoted to increasing the impact of SUNY research and innovation, Matthew oversaw a comprehensive commercialization and economic development portfolio that focused on curating technology-based partnerships with both public and private entities. Matthew managed various initiatives that support intellectual property development and monetization and connect SUNY-affiliated companies and entrepreneurs to the resources – capital, talent, facilities – necessary for growth and success. Matthew continues to support and facilitate the early-stage development of SUNY-affiliated startups in serving as the managing director of the SUNY Technology Accelerator Fund (TAF), a proof-of-concept investment fund that has invested over $3 million since its inception in 2011 and which has catalyzed a return of over $16 million. 

An active leader and collaborator in organization-empowering technology commercialization and economic growth across New York State, Matthew  serves on the boards of the Central New York Biotechnology Accelerator, Downstate Biotechnology Incubator, and BioBAT. He is also a member of the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM) and the Licensing Executives Society. 

Earlier in his RF career Matthew worked in the RF’s Office of General Counsel, Technology Transfer Office, and the University at Albany Office of Innovation Development and Commercialization. A 15-year veteran of the RF and SUNY research community, Matthew is a graduate of Stony Brook University, Albany Law School, and the University at Albany.
