Thousands of brilliant minds at SUNY campuses across the state perform life-changing research in every field imaginable. The RF contributes directly to SUNY’s mission by providing resources and services that help faculty find, apply for and manage funding for their research, training and public service projects. View the Sponsored Programs Lifecycle.

As SUNY’s authorized representative for externally funded grants, contracts and other agreements, the RF prepares and submits grant proposals; negotiates agreements with government, industry, nonprofit and foreign sponsors; and accepts awards on behalf of the principal investigator and the campus. See Sponsored Programs Fast Facts.

Once an award has been accepted, the RF manages grant or sponsored program funds and ensures compliance with university, sponsor and government policies and procedures.

The RF uses a state-of-the-art business system to process human resources, grants administration, and purchasing/payables transactions. The business system is linked to the RF Report Center, which makes data available to principal administrators and administrators via easy-to-understand dashboards.

The RF also assists principal investigators by:

  • developing tools to identify funding sources and collaborative research opportunities.
  • prefunding projects prior to sponsor reimbursement.
