Dr. Meng-Ling Hsiao

Meng-Ling Hsiao, PhD joined the Research Foundation Board of Directors in November 2009. Dr. Hsiao serves as Executive Chief Engineer - Sciences & Technology within General Electric’s Energy Business. Since joining General Electric Corporate Research and Development (CRD) in 1986 as a senior research scientist, she has held positions of increasing responsibility.

Her accomplishments include: research and development of industrial NDE and medical imaging technologies, leading numerous quality enhancement, cost reduction and productivity improvement activities as coordinator of GE Power Systems/CRD Cost and Quality Initiatives; leading Systems Engineering efforts covering product lines in gas turbines, steam turbines and generator as General Manager of Power Generation Systems Engineering; and leading a global team to develop new products and services as General Manager of Generator Technology and as Senior General Manager of Steam Turbine Technology Center of Excellence.

Dr. Hsiao served as an Executive Board member of the GE Asian Pacific American Forum (APAF) and is a member of the Schenectady APAF leadership team with special emphasis on external focus and branding. A certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt and a Design-for-Six-Sigma expert, Dr. Hsiao received three CRD Whitney Gallery Technical Achievement Awards, published more than two dozen technical articles, and holds eight U.S. patents.

She received her master’s and doctorate degrees in Electrical Engineering from University of Pittsburgh.

Active in various community service activities, Dr. Hsiao was a Chinese language class teacher and coordinator and served on the board of the United Way of Schenectady and the Capital Region Chinese Community Center. Over the years, she was personally involved in various acts of community service for Schenectady City Mission, Camp Wildwood, Hands-On-Capital-Land, COMPASS, and Junior Achievement.

In addition, she participates in various GE Women’s Network sponsored Girls Inc. Technology Day and National Job Shadow events to promote the importance of math and science.
