Investigating Conflict of Interest

Impartiality

Each campus must establish an impartial process for review of complaints and inquiries. An impartial panel must be selected to conduct inquiries and investigations.

Time Frames

Review

Each review must be completed within sixty (60) calendar days from receipt of the disclosure, including preparation of a written report.

Investigation

If findings from a review provide sufficient basis for conducting an investigation, an investigation must be initiated within thirty (30) calendar days of the completion of the review.

Investigations must be completed within sixty (60) calendar days.

Treatment of Affected Individuals

Affected individual(s) must be afforded confidential treatment to the maximum extent possible, and are entitled to a prompt and thorough investigation and an opportunity to comment on any allegations or findings resulting from the investigation.

Retention of Documentation

Detailed documentation of each review must be maintained for at least three (3) years, and must, upon request, be provided to the officers or Board of Directors of the Research Foundation.

Documentation to substantiate an investigation's findings must be retained for at least three (3) years after completion of the final report.

Protection of Assets

Appropriate interim administrative actions will be taken to protect Research Foundation and/or sponsored program assets and funds, and to ensure that the purposes of any programs for which financial assistance is given are being carried out.
